Don't use a plumb bob!On many do-it-yourself films you will see the installer start off by making a plumb line. The installer then uses this perfectly straight vertical line for a guide for installing his first sheet of wallcovering. That is how it should be. Unfortunately too many times the installer uses a plumb bob to make that line. Use of the plumb bob causes unnecessary problems. First.....plumb bobs use CHALK to make their marks. When your wallcovering with it's wet adhesive comes in contact with that chalk it makes ink. That is why many times the first seam is always darker then the others in a room. Looks lousy. Secondly....the weight at the end of the string forces the string out away from the wall. This can cause the line not to make a true straight line -- which is why we were using the bob in the first place. Forget the plumb bob and use a level. Make a very light dotted line with your pencil. Takes a few more minutes but can save a world of problems.
