In which direction should I hang????All most every instruction sheet and book on wallcovering installation that you will pick up will tell you to hang from LEFT TO RIGHT. This is because we Americans think in a LEFT TO RIGHT direction. We read from LEFT TO RIGHT. Our eating utensils are laid out LEFT TO RIGHT Our clocks go LEFT TO RIGHT The people that make up instruction sheets and books decided not to try and break some deeply ingrained habits. So they teach you to install wallcoverings going from LEFT TO RIGHT. This is great if you are left handed. It is the pits if you (like the majority of people) are RIGHT handed. Do this experiment if you are right handed. Let's pretend to hang from LEFT TO RIGHT Go and face a wall. Pretend that you have just put up a sheet of wallcovering. Now move down the wall the width of one sheet of wallcovering. Look at where your seam will be. It will be on your on left side. This means to match up all those pretty patterns you are going to have to work with your LEFT hand. That will follow for EVERY seam you do all the way around your room. Horrible. Uncomfortable.
Now do the same experiment only play that you are hanging from RIGHT to LEFT. See what hand you will using to set your seam? BINGO! Like the installer above you will be using..... Your RIGHT hand. Now why would any RIGHT handed person choose to do otherwise? This does involve a readjustment in your way of thinking. You are going to have to make a conscious effort to start hanging in this direction. But make that effort. Every single sheet of wallcovering you hang will look better and go up easier. As for you lefties...this is one of the only places in the world where you will find things easier for you from the beginning. Keep hanging from LEFT to Right. You'll be fine!
