First you must know this:

  • Wallcovering manufacturers make a fashion product for your home.
  • The great majority of wallcovering that is sold is bought by homeowners who plan to install it themselves.

Therefore in order to sell MORE wallcovering to their biggest market the manufacturer must convince you (the homeowner) that hanging their wallcovering is:

  • Always simple
  • Can be always be done successfully by you (the novice) in any area of the home

The notion that wallcovering installation is always simple is further pushed on all those DIY shows and home fashion magazines. Unfortunately this is great advertising HYPE.... it isn't the entire truth...

What is true is this:

  • Wallcoverings are a fashion product.
  • Wallcoverings can dress up your home for relatively low cost and increase it's value.
  • SOME wallcoverings can be successfully installed by homeowners.
  • And there are SOME AREAS in a home where homeowners can expect to successfully install wallcoverings.

This is also true:

  • SOME wallcoverings CANNOT be hung successfully by a novice.
  • There are SOME AREAS in a home where a novice should NEVER attempt an installation.
  • There are SOME areas and wallcoverings where any novice can hang.
